Background
This summer I had the opportunity to intern as a UX Designer for AIMIA! Aimia is a startup whose mission is to change how people access career opportunities, leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance human potential and ensure fairness in the job market.
As a UX/UI intern, I worked on improving the usability and accessibility of Aimia’s website and mobile application. We’re not finished yet but here’s what we have so far!
📌 First we conducted a detailed competitor analysis to evaluate the current industries applications similar to AIMIA that are leveraging AI to help with their careers
📌 We assessed their key weaknesses and strengths
📌 These insights helped us with making design decisions to enhance our users usability
Competitor Analysis
Color Analysis and Brand Comparisons
We explored different design styles and color schemes inspired by similar applications!
Blue is often used for text and interactive elements, blue conveys trustworthiness and professionalism, balancing the vibrant tones
The overall palette reflects Duolingo’s mascot, Duo the owl, reinforcing brand consistency. The colors align with Duo’s quirky, friendly, and encouraging personality, making the learning experience more engaging and memorable
This vibrant and strategic use of color contributes to the app’s success in fostering a positive and enjoyable user experience
One of our main inspirations was Duolingo, a brand that is used for learning different languages.
Their primary color is bright green which represents energy, growth, and positivity, aligning with the platform’s mission to make learning fun and motivational
They also use Yellow , Orange and Blue as accent colors
Yellow and Orange add warmth, enthusiasm, and playfulness, complementing the green to create a cheerful and inviting aesthetic
With all our research in hand, it’s time to go back to the drawing board!
Another brand we analyzed was Walmart
Walmart’s primary color is Blue
The blue in Walmart’s branding conveys trust, reliability, and professionalism. It reassures customers that Walmart is a dependable retailer where they can find quality products at affordable prices
The brand chose Yellow as an accent color symbolizing optimism, happiness, and energy. It suggests a bright, positive shopping experience, emphasizing Walmart’s commitment to uplifting communities and providing value.
Yellow serves as a warm and inviting contrast to the blue, making the brand feel approachable and customer-focused.
We selected a color palette and typography that aligned with the brand identity while enhancing user’s readability!
Our vision board
This section highlights the user journey, mapping out the steps users take to interact with the product
User Journey
Using Figma, we created a Prototype for the mobile application
This interactive prototype enables our users to experience the design flow firsthand and provide meaningful feedback
A key feature of the mobile application is an AI-powered chat system. This feature allows users to message and receive personalized, data-driven feedback to help them discover the best career paths.
From a design perspective, we chose a clean and minimalist approach to ensure the focus remains on the AI feature and career assessment section.
It’s still a work in progress, but this is what we’ve developed so far. Check it out!
Final Takeaways and Future Improvements
The biggest challenge I faced during this project was adapting everything we created for the mobile version into a desktop format. It was difficult but also refreshing to approach the design from a new perspective and create something different
So what are our future steps….
While our design emphasizes an interactive user interface, further refinement is needed to fully meet user needs. In the future, we plan to
📌 Conduct further testing with a larger audience to validate and improve the design
📌 Expand the AI chatting/messaging feature to enhance user engagement
📌 Develop a "Day in the Life" scenario or videos to immerse users in their potential careers
